| I picked up this silver wing motif hat off ebay recently. A little item, a random purchase, but I'm really pleased with it! ...and it got me thinking! It's obviously from a mid 1970's 'Quatermasters' small card and is even featured as such in the 1975 equipment manual. ...but the first hat I ever had with the motif was a blue pilot version on a late 1960's Mintex 'Buddy Action' figure. Am I correct in thinking the AM pilot of the time's hat lacked the motif? Did it appear as a KO before a 'genuine' Palitoy item or are they both copies of an earlier Hasbro piece? _________________ Life moves pretty fast. | No idea about the cap but that uniform in the catalogue is one I hankered after as a kid.I always thought and still do that it had a certain Gerry Anderson look about it. _________________ There is pleasure in recognising old things from a new viewpoint. Richard Feynman | |

| The original 60`s blue cap was blank you are correct Steve :-) the motifs were only used on the later Internationals hats. | |

| That's a great pick up. I have been after one of those for ages. They have always come up at the wrong time for me. I looks in great condition, fantastic. | |

| Update! Thanks to Pete_AM Hank is now modelling the dark brown version of the hat! I'm also a bit further along in my quest to solve the mystery of the Silver Wing motif! As previously explained, the motif didn't appear in the action man range until the mid 1970's 'Quatermasters' small cards but I had a blue hat with the motif on a Mintex Action Buddy KO figure in the 60's. As I can't find any example of the motif in Hasbro's GI Joe range it must have originated in KO and then made the jump to 'proper' figures. The complete opposite to what usually happened. It even turned up on some Star Trek KO's before AM got hold of it! http://www.plaidstallions.com/racktoys/lincolnrock.html_________________ Life moves pretty fast. | Here is a Defender wearing KO pilot gear, including a helmet with the Silver Wing motif. This is the early issue helmet. The later KO helmets were even more crude and had no insignia. Here's a Hasbro Pilot wearing the standard blue cap. -Nate | |
