| 1980 ends with the most fascinating and most confusing release of the year The Space Ranger Captain. This was the first in a series of Action Men Space releases intended to appeal to the Star Wars fans that were now sadly turning away from Action Man. Palitoy desperately tries to keep up over the next four years but sadly this can't be done and slowly as Action Man loses his popularity Palitoy feel the pinch more and more and who would know then that in a mere four years Action Man as we know him would be retired. The first release was as usual box with side flap which was a very short run and came with a tabard with red stripe in it (As depicted on the box) and silver material gloves. Then they dropped the flap and issued Action Man with a new yellow striped tabard (Although he still posed with the red stripe on the front of the box). The last issued boxed figure was then released featuring a picture of Action Man with a new yellow striped tabard and dropped the picture of his dynamic physique but had now issued him with white moulded plastic gloves. as pictured here. All boxed figures were issued with a rubber suit that perished most like the fogman outfit so to find a good conditioned one is a rarity in itself. Here are the different issues from Alan Halls 1978 guide | |

| Fine examples, Dan!!! I love the artwork, especially in photo 2 (box back?) I had no idea the suits were made out of rubber, we don't get to see this range much, and not up this close Lycra (lol!) would have been ideal and lasted a lot longer for these suits. The helmet and glove designs look quite similar to the later MAM range If I had those rubber suits, I would spread talcum-powder inside, to stop it fusing with the body of Action Man over a long period of time _________________ clivvers - saviour of the huMAM race @ MAMageddon 2009 - 2099 @ clivvers MAM Nation: | |
