My first ever sculpt and copy of Don Levine's Rocky please meet Yorkie

I've picked this new sculpting modeling material over the weekend and wanted to have a go at sculpting, so here is my first ever attempt, so what better model than the late great Don Levine's first ever GI Joe his "Rocky" figure.
So here's my version of this groundbreaking creation,

Cheers Dal, it was really therapeutic doing the sculpt I would say to anyone who's interested to give it a go it's great stress relief messing with clays

Not bad, better than what i could do. I'm glad it's relaxing doing head sculpts. the amount of new sculpts you could do is endless!

I would love to have a go at making my own sculpts, you'll have to list what brand of modeling clay you used, i've had loads of head sculpt ideas in my mind for ages. You'll also have to show how i can attach the sculpted head to a figure body, what type of glue and all that. I'll be using artists acrylic paints to paint the sculpt

So, I'm not the only one who thought that, but a more 'human' looking intruder.

Nice work and a tough head sculpt to nail. I definitely see Rocky in there, but I also agree with the others, he looks a bit like a cool version of the Intruder too.

Cheers Clive yes its not easy but I expected that, I'm going to have another go at this one now Ive got the first one done, yes have a go It's great and whatever the outcome it'll be unique to you, I'm pretty much a novice at this and are just using trial and error, but are lucky to have the help and knowledge of my son James who is a special effects artist in his spare time, so he knows how to do casting and what stuff to use, he suggested I attempt to do this sculpt as he thought I needed to revive my own artistic skills He was busy playing World of Warcraft at the time anyway here's the modeling clay that i used it's used to make dolls heads and hardens like porcelain when set for half an hour in the oven



Regarding gluing the heads on up to now Ive used bluetac, but I have seen the heads being drilled out

Cheers Gary and yes it is quite fiddly and the more you do you don't want to spoil what you've done already, and yes I can see now the Intruder, Damn he's now my arch Nemesis as he's been my pet dislike from the VAM series, How did he sneak in here

Thanks Bri yes when I showed James my sculpt he said it looks slightly more portly than the original Rocky, but he was also inpressed I was able to get something that slightly resembled the images

Thanks for having a look and the encouragment, and yes I see the intruder too  I'm going to have another go at it later but just got up from night-shift, My son and I have been doing a couple of casts of the platoon figures but the resin we are using isn't very high quality (picked up from local art shop) but I will probably have a go at casting this and then having a go at painting it up, Cheers for the link

That would be a great idea, in the near future there could be a dedicated head sculpt post, so watch out for it. I can imagine some comedy type head sculpts being made, or new super hero types! There might even be a competition with a prize of some sort, i'll make a note

Nice one mate great stuff I can imagine a few monsters and alians amongst them lets see how many get to look like the Intruder

Here's my 2nd attempt at the Rocky/Yorkie sculpt hopefully I've got a bit less Intruder this time and a bit more Rocky whats the verdict?

Not bad, Ian, it's better than anything i could pull off. Once they've been painted they will look much better


I wouldn't mind doing some baddie monster sculpts, with horns and large noses  

You should do some edible ones, similar to sweet mice?

Well Clive as you said about a baddie Monster Sculpt here's my Rocky/Yorkie alter ego "heeeeere's Crocky"

old crocky looks like frankenvam!....

"The Crocky Horror Show!"  

That looks pretty cool, and creepy too! It reminds me of an ex Mummy.

You could do a fantasy horror 'Mummy Squad'  It'll look even better once it's been painted. I think the eyes would look scary if painted just white, with no pupils
