Septembers Interview - sgt_elias Empty
PostSubject: Septembers Interview - sgt_elias   Septembers Interview - sgt_elias Icon_minitimeThu Nov 08, 2012 11:04 am

This months Interview sgt_elias.

Name ?
Damian but most people call me Damo.

Online name ?
Sgt_Elias

Location ?
Norfolk, moved from my hometown of Stevenage to my mum and grandparents area after spending my childhood summers here.

First vam/gi joe/mam or 1/6 figure ?
First ever would have been a ninja modern action man, with red ninja gear but soon got him into some camo and me and my mum would make outfits for him, still got his knight costume (with realistic toilet roll helmet), james bond style tux, and german stormtrooper.

Favourite figure now? -
It's hard to choose just one, i love my scramble pilots, gi jane and my custom i built spiffy stu... But if i had to choose one it would probably be my ski patrol - the detail of the original outfits was utterly amazing, and everything about this outfit whenever i look at it makes me look again and admire how well it was designed. Close second would be my combat soldier, but i think it's a constantly evolving answer.

Most desired item ?

hmmmm... I'm not sure i have one, i go from one soldier and outfit to the next... adding and updating as i go, then i get waylayed when i get part of something else and start putting that together. Maybe for the minute Tom Stone just because i don't have one.

What will you do with your collection as you get older ?

That's an easy one, it will all be passed on to my boys, me and the eldest always played VAM and even built cardboard bunkers and the youngest loves the scorpion and all the VAM troopers even tried suggesting we should build a spitfire for Spiffy Stu.

Do you set yourself a budget?

There wouldn't be any point i have no self control

Worst vam/gi joe/mam or 1/6 figure?

there's a barbie in our box of figures from when the oldest was younger, she's a malibu barbie i think - one of the cheapest ones and her hair looks like she's been dragged through a bush backwards by Ken - everytime i see her in there i start thinking of 1/6 funeral pyr.

Views on 40th reproductions?

Not too keen on 40th, from what i've seen it is a little half arsed, and was just made for profit making rather than continueing the work done on the originals and is a plague that spreads into your VAM collection from people not knowing what they're selling.

Worst item of vam/gi joe/mam range?

Probably the space rangers, never really got on with them even though VAM wasn't my era i've got some of the bits from my Grandparents hourde.

Best thing about collecting vam/gi joe/mam or 1/6 figures?

It's like being a kid again, but having the cash so as not having to plead parents to get you things

Do you think your collection will be collectable in the future?

I think so, VAM wasn't my generation but i got hooked from seeing them at my Grandparents house and favoured them over my own MAM and couldn't wait to visit in the holidays. I think because of the design of them, how poseable they are and their kit i think they'll always be played with.

If you did not collect vam/gi joe/mam or 1/6 figures what would you collect?

I don't think i'd collect anything, i'm a hourder by nature so probably just fill my garage and shed up with more useless tut. Maybe comics, i have got quite alot of old comics, and decorated one of our bedrooms with pages from comics (it was meant to be the computer room) but then our youngest came along - on a positive note he does know alot of the characters

Why do you like ammo ?

I like the wealth of knowledge and skills on here, finding out things. The comerardery towards completing a figure or a kitbash, and seeing everyone's collection. I've met some good friends on here, and hope to meet many more over the time i spend on here.

Thanks for reading my ramblings, and hope to talk to you on AMMO
