Thanks for resurrecting this older topic that I have not seen before.
Those guys are cool! What are they? Are they customs?
But those backdrops! That diorama! That is the perfect blend of cartoony-homemade and believably realistic! Well, okay, maybe leaning a little bit more toward cartoony-homemade... but THAT IS WHAT I WANT MY GI JOE HQ TO LOOK LIKE!!! Retro-vintage high-tech obviously fake but realistic enough for the suspension of disbelief to make it work.
Is the original poster still active on the forum? Are there any work-in-progress pics or tutorials about this diorama?
I am copying these pics (totally without permission) to download and study.
(EDIT TO ADD: Okay, I see that
JohnnyE4 has had some serious health issues at the end of last year which limited his recent online activity, but that he has multiple past posts on the forum showing how he builds some stuff, and he also has a Weebly web site with more detailed diorama directions.)
(EDIT AGAIN: I found a "tour" of the headquarters. He created a 3-D version out of wood of the old vinyl fold-out playset! How awesome is that?
