The weirdo on the right still gives me the willies , nice to see them though .
He gives me more than the willies, he actually gives me nightmares with that creepy smile of his.

Happy Birthday Jake!
46 years ago today (1978), on my sixth birthday, I received my first brand new out of the box Action Man Eagle Eyes Talking Commander (Who I named, Jake), We've been together for a real long time, and I wouldn't trade him for any other figure! Sure, he's not quite as old as Joe or Hank, of skj HQ, Kev's Spud, or even TOmK, but he can hold his own against any of them . Mine originally came with Green trousers, but I added the camo version, and teh SAS cap to his locker. However, I always liked him best in his black, SAS gear.
Talking Commander Description:
The basic Action Man Action Soldier figure from 1966, was joined by a talking version - the (talking) Commander in 1968. The first of the 'talkers', he spoke 8 phrases by pulling out a cord attached to his dog tag from his chest to coloured markers on cord. Upon letting the cord go it would speak one phrase whilst returning automatically. The talking Commander adopted flock hair in 1970 but retained the same outfit. In 1973 - for one year only - his name became "Talking Commander" - with 'Gripping Hands' a new jersey, peaked cap and muffler. he was replaced in 1974 by the non-talking Field Commander with his separate 'talking' Field Radio. In 1978 he came back - he gained the Eagle Eye head, new voice box with 5 phrases, had the all-new dynamic physique body (It had a sticker on box announcing such) and sported green trousers, becoming camouflage by 1981.
Action Man Talking Commander five phrases (from 1978) were (in random order): "Enemy tanks approaching" "Give me some cover" "Send out the patrol" "What’s the password" "Advance in single file".

Fantastic Dal Jake sure has stood the test of time remarkably well I had a late 70's BP EE basic soldier But sadly snapped his neck on undercover a.m. manoeuvres. I was gutted though . That's truly amazing and has given me the feel good factor... Thanks Dal . I'll speak to you soon my friend Very kind regards , Allan

I love your story about Jake, Dal. It's the kind of story that so many of us have about our childhood toys, and it's what makes Action Man so special. Our Action Men weren't just toys; they were companions on so many imaginary adventures! Just owning them is a tangible link back to simpler days and happier times. They're so special and worth more than any amount of money!

Cheers Scott! I couldn't agree more, Jake and I went on many adventures and never left the back garden . These guys really are, as you say a link back to our childhoods .
