This is the Adventures of GI Joe Rescue of the Pygmy Gorilla.
The figures came without a shirt, so I added the olive drab T-shirt to make him look better. The bandolier style holster was originally draped from the left shoulder, making the pistol on his left shoulder. I rearranged it to make the pistol on the right shoulder, which I think makes it easier for him to reach, and putting the machete and holster on his left side. He has binoculars, and the "tranquilizer" gun was used in previous sets as a bazooka.

The comic on the back of the box.
The set that came with the second figure.
I made this figure my Modern Adventure Team Commander, with a black uniform I got from BlackOpsToys on ebay, along with a holster and pistol from the same seller.

"You have to live the adventure!"
I see that ol' Joe brought along a big-bore handgun in addition to his "one shot" tranquilizer rifle. Just in case.
That "pygmy gorilla" is, indeed, a pygmy! A dwarf even by chimpanzee standards! But those razor-like fangs could do a number on your kneecaps!
(Actually, yes, I'm aware that even chimpanzees can be extremely dangerous, and there are numerous instances of them seriously mauling and injuring humans.)
Another fun comic (with pretty cool artwork) and a set with a lot of play value. Because anything that fires rockets has a lot of play value!

That is right Dave, the "gorilla" is pretty much sized as a chimp.
And chimps can be crazed, a local zoo taught me that. Luckily they were behind a thick piece of plastic, they are known to throw their feces at people.
The vintage set had a larger gorilla, more like a "pygmy" gorilla.
Since I've used one figure as my modern commander, that leaves two "gorillas" for the one I kept intact.

Love the layout and graphics of the comic! Sad about the tiny gorilla, but all of the associated animals in those releases seemed to be far too tiny. The octopus, the shark etc. I have replaced all of them with much bigger (and better) versions. Your additions and assemblages are great Daryl !

Gorilla too small? Solution: glue it to an old souvenir where it's too large, ....but fun anyway!

Daryl I’m really liking your take on the Rescue the Pygmy Gorilla set. I think it was brilliant that the figure came without a shirt and it’s a pity you added the olive drab T-shirt on the Pygmy Gorilla set because I think it would have totally worked if he remained bare chested to give him that action hero look about him. I’m only kidding Daryl the olive drab t shirt really works on him. I especially love his head sculpt. Your Modern Adventure Team Commander is a nice and simple kitbash. You can’t go wrong with a black uniform . Again I’m really liking his head sculpt. Thank you very much for sharing these kitbashes with us Daryl.

Thanks Alexander, I'm glad you like him!
Yes, he did have the action hero look without the shirt.
I guess it depends on personal preference, he did look rugged without the shirt, but I like the look with the shirt.
The head sculpt is the modern Joe look, for the series.
Many who put together a modern Adventure Team like to get the General Lee figure, with white hair and beard to make as their commander.
One collector, who did a series of photo stories used a figure like mine, dressed in jeans, black T and a brown bomber style jacket. I didn't want to copy any of them, but I liked the modern figure, and I could have dressed him in a similar manner easily enough.
But I wanted to be different. That's why I found the black uniform for mine. I didn't want to copy others.

I like this set and I think your additions and re-works have worked a treat . I think I got that AA figure in a fire rescue set ? And I agree black uniforms look cool . I have seen pics of the original set , I didn`t know they had re - released it . It`s nice to see these sets .

Yes, the modern Joe had these figures, I wouldn't be at all surprised if you have that figure in a fire rescue set.

These are really nice figures. Its cool your first guy is African, great diversity here. I don't think the ape is too small, pygmies can be all small sizes. You could use him for a small Kaiju-Titan display or even for a substitute for Kong! Great stuff there from BlackOps, I got some good stuff from them years ago on their web store, good service too!

Thanks Brandon. Yeah, BlackOps is great. I only recently learned of his website.
I've bought a bunch of stuff from him over the years on ebay.
