| The attention to detail is brilliant, Dal! I never tire of seeing this being used in your comic strips. I've flirted with the idea of making something similar to this, but so far i only have an empty Sainsburys cardboard box, a couple of loo roll tubes, some string and some UHU-glue! _________________ clivvers - saviour of the huMAM race @ MAMageddon 2009 - 2099 @ clivvers MAM Nation: | |

Thanks Clive!, yes it does make a great backdrop for stories. To build a room mate, I would suggest using 1/2 boards, that way you get stability, the only problem is having somewhere to put it! . Mine is a bit of beast, it measures around, 16" (depth) x 20" (height) x 28" (length). Most of the items in there are either home made or from charity shops. The desk itself, is two wooden jewelry boxes cut and mixed together. The book shelves are 3D picture frames, the books came from printable sheets that reddragon sent me . Be creative Clive! you can make almost anything work . Also, never underestimate re spraying Barbie or sindy household parts, I mean, they are the perfect scale! Go for it Clive!

| believe it or not I keep eyeing up the old SINDY multi floor Dolls house. It has similar measurements to your room here Dal but 3 floors and a roof floor. Keep trying to get one but apparently seems to be a very popular piece for Sindy collectors as empty ones go for £60+ :/ So yes a big base needed but goes upward and 3 rooms to play with Well that is My goal for doing room dios. | |

Thanks snowy!, the longest part was hunting down all the small parts, once the box was built, it was more fiddly than anything

| This is certainly an interesting and enlightening topic, even though it dates back to six years ago.
No cardboard or foamcore for you! You jumped right in to the diorama biz with actual wood (and pressboard). Starting out at the "graduate school" level!
It is interesting seeing that in this first effort, you papered the walls, but then painted them red to get both the texture and color you wanted. I believe in subsequent versions you tracked down red textured wallpaper to avoid the messy and time-consuming painting step.
Wooden doors with wooden frames... and actual hinges! Nice detail work! You certainly spared no effort.
We get to see your first attempt at cutting down thrift store jewelry boxes to make a desk. That is such a brilliant idea. I'm keeping an eye out for jewelry boxes. You used the handles as door handles, too, and they look perfect. (All I've found so far were some dog coffins. Well, wooden urns. A pet crematory disposed of a half-dozen 10-inch wooden boxes at the local dump. I fished them out of the bins. Several had little hinges and locks on them. There were no longer ashes in the boxes... other than a trace... but the name of the pet and the date it was cremated was pencilled on the bottom side of each box. Somewhat creepy, but they are nice boxes. I'm sure I'll find a use for them eventually.)
The work-in-progress pics of the sofa were interesting. There is actually "padding" between the sofa frame and the upholstery!
One technique you continue to use is the wood cladding for floors. That is an excellent solution that I have begun using since joining this forum and seeing the AMMO Arms.
It was interesting to learn that MiskatonicNick used Sindy dollhouses as the framework for some of his dioramas. I did not know that before now. _________________ ... DAVE

I learnt so much from this first build, at the time, I didn't really know what I was doing! I always liked this study, but painting the walls caused flash points on the walls when photographing the figures in there. I am always on the lookout for 1/6 scale items, drives my missus mad! . I believe the cladding the best solution for floors, it looks like floorboards, plus it gives a steady base to stand the figures up . Yeah, MiskatonicNick taught me so much, but I never did get around to buying any Sindy wall frames.
