Sparklebudgies Repaired Army

Thought I would start a thread for all my repaired old soldiers.
I will be re-posting the early ones from UAMHQ when time allows and will be adding as time goes by. Apologies in advance for all who have already seen them.
Hopefully it might encourage you to try and repair and breath life back into the old soldiers.

This one arrived yesterday, the seller described the head as scrap because of the felt pen on his face. He is above standard for me with flexible gripping hands and generally fair condition.








Right, lets see what the PanOxyl10 aquagel can do then.

The lesson to be learnt from this chap is not to use a felt tip pen to mark the eyebrows!

I do like a challenge

After filling all the open "wounds" with epoxy resin I needed to squeeze him up a bit, I found 50 cd's did the trick.



So many cuts I missed one on his nose, elastic band held this one shut till it set.




Here he is, restrung and ready to go back to active service.

I have left the torso as is, it was an experiment with milliput. I now know it works (all a learning curve) but will be buying the flesh coloured stuff next time!











Just add some basics (40th Gi Joe) for now.

And what is going on with this hip ball?





After he was stripped down I was amazed how bad the hip ball was!


I have a good pair of Painted rivet feet, but do you think I could find them?
I was bidding on some nice original H/Hands but they went well over what I was prepared to pay so settled for 40th ones.



Just needed a good clean now.

For Now though here he is;

Just arrived from the bay with excellent body with tight elastic.
I am not sure about this one Just the head needing work (understatement).








I have been trying to melt on "a nose" with plastic taken from the inside of the neck. I have used my Art-heat gun to melt/weld it on and it's a lot harder than I expected!
I know it looks scary at this point but it will get better.





You can see how hot it got by the scorch marks on his chin (well where his chin should be!).






I am getting there but still a long way to go.

He will get better!



Things are a bit slow this week. At least he has a chin now!




I have to admit I am struggling with this one.




Right he is finished :excite:
He is not perfect by any standards (even Mine!) but lessons have been learnt.

This is by far one of the best idea/threads I have seen anywhere Brian ! Brilliant work is an understatement.

This chap has been seen before with almost permenant Make up on his face.
Here is how he looked before the "spot" cream treatment.

Thanks to chippy for Dog tags and helmet and Mulch Diggums for basics and combat jacket.

Here's one from a while back when body parts were scarce for me.
After a tip from BrownBoots I finally managed to use a pair of bbi arms on a VAM body.
Fist up some homemade washers;


opps I dropped the torso and broke the elastic lug, Bic to the rescue with a bit of epoxy glue.

Glue all set, ready to continue (like to see the leg elastic pull that one out!).;


All slotting in nicely;


Yep, all working fine!






He just borrowed the clothes and dog tag.

This is another one I worked on, he is in good nick apart form the Nose



Still work in progress.

The EE has faired better, here he is finished.




Not perfect I know, but he is usable again.

I have taken a leaf from your book and have started to restore a few myself 2 of them are from my childhood so this makes it even more special

A quick BP arm Fix.




Just needed to fit a Vintage hand onto the new arm peg, first time I have done this and maybe I was lucky but it went on very easily.


Job Done.

Right one pair of arms ready to be refitted.

The body had been split ages ago when i removed the smashed arm.



Now the arms have been popped back in time to super glue the seams and sqeeze him up tight. I choose to use the dining table to keep the torso pressed together!


A little sanding to remove excess glue.




One quick head restring and;


Not perfect I know, but just the way I like my VAM!
Now where is that US 40th kit?

An excellent 40th Uniform. The hardest bit to fit was the helmet netting, although I did leave out the cloth belt.

So another VAM lives to fight another day.

Another victim of the Knife

Well not much going for this chap really.
After a deflock and a clean up.
He looks, no, is rough even by my standards.













A little sanding to the nose, some well faded GI 40th fatigues and a bbi carbine and to me he looks great, oh and yes and a reflock to help hide the abuse this old soldier has taken.
The cigar helped to fill the damaged mouth, but to be honest you could just about get away without one.
He looks like he is ready to tell his story !
