I got this Marx Buddy Charlie that I repaired a few weeks back. The Sailor outfit he's in is nice; but I had something special in mind.
I saw this image in an Osprey book of the Alamo Scouts. They are one of the parent organizations of the modern Green Berets.
I splurged a bit and got a loose Captain Action SGT Fury camo jumpsuit. The Ideal and Marx bodies are nearly identical, so it fits Charlie. I've been going back on what headgear he'll wear.
A patrol cap like the illustration:
A green beret like his descendant:
Or a helmet:
For the moment, he's in the helmet:

Interesting! I don't think I've ever heard of Marx Buddy Charlie. I see the resemblance to the Marx "Johnny West" figures, like Chief Cherokee.

The All-American Fighter (often referred to as Buddy Charlie due to Montgomery Ward branding them as such-MW was a big Marx retailer) was Marx's competitor to Gi Joe. It was basically a Johnny West head on a Captain Action Body. Marx and ideal apparently shared R+D. Same body style, and the SGT Fury accessories are basically the same as those used by Buddy Charlie and Stony Smith. The odd duck is the camo outfit. It's a modified Joe scramble pilot flight suit in Joe marine camo. You can tell that the same factories made items for the competitors and knockoffs!

I have one All American Fighter (Buddy Charlie). I have about three Stony Smith's. And I got two of Marxman's black body repros of Stony. One is assembled, the other isn't. The one I got unassembled came with the Buddy Charlie head and hands, unpainted.
I need to get around to assembling the repro black body, I picked up a Marx style head and hands to go with it. And two black berets from Stewart's Attic. Sort of a "commando" team if you will. I've haven't gotten around to assembling him, because I've never used a punch before, for the tubular rivets.
