Another upgraded troop for My Vietcong main force . In 1968 during the Tet offensive , the Vietcong and NVA had planned a massive surprise attack on South Vietnamese cities . Saigon ( Now known as Ho Chi Minh City ) , was hit particularly hard , even the U.S Embassy got hit . There seemed to be three stages of the Tet offensive , mainly in the months of January and February , and later in May and August . These months involved unusually intense battles , and by the end of Tet , unknown to the U.S , the Vietcong Main force was virtually wiped out , and had to be propped up with NVA troops for further assaults . His ruck is a converted Formative Figures Medic pack , far too big realistically for it`s original purpose , another old satchel from dragon , G.I Joe NAM nurse Boonie , not sure who made the chest rig , but it`s nice . He is armed with a re painted 21st SKS rifle .

With that face sculpt, this figure looks like a nice guy. Too bad he was caught up in such a brutal, lengthy conflict.
Were the Vietcong volunteers, or conscripted (drafted), or otherwise forced to fight?
Or were they funded and supported by China, hence the Mao-type uniform?
From the history you provide, it sounds like this guy probably didn't make it back home.

Thanks Dave , there were a lot of volunteers , and also a lot bullied or persuaded to join . The Vietcong main force were properly well trained soldiers . The Vietcong as mentioned before , were part time and very often the older generations in the villages . Many weapons were supplied from China I believe , they were also experts at making things from nothing , I read somewhere to quote a U.S troop , " If you see any rubbish in Vietnam then it was rubbish , they used virtually everything " ! Over 1 million NVA and Vietcong died during the Vietnam conflict , his chances of returning home were slim I guess .
