1980 continued where 1979 ended apart from after the fans had accepted the Desert Fighter which was the least dressed figure ever to grace the toy shelves it seems palitoy would push it one step further and release a completely naked doll and rely solely on the packaging alone to sell it (Quote: somekindajoe) :)This again as with many of Palitoys releases of this time was first released with a flap then subsequently this was dropped. Thus the box with flap is rarer than this one

The cheapest figure of the range, and no doubt this would have lead to more sales of uniforms and equipment. Selling a figure as basic as this was definitely part of Palitoy's strategic business planning, more affordable means more sales= more revenue Wink

Another fine Action Man specimen, Dan! Very Happy

Rolling Eyes  Marketing strategies...

Remove half the kit and sell the boxed figure as a 'Desert Fighter'

Remove all the kit and sell the boxed figure as a 'Basic Figure'
What was next, Remove the figure too and sell the box as an 'Action Man deserter'? lol!

Having said that I think the 'Basic Figure' was a good idea. It obviously wasn't intended to be someone's first AM or just bought on it's own, but for a child who's already got some AM and kit, or bought with a separate uniform card it was great.

I agree Steve. I think this figure was a great idea. I had loads of spare clothes, big bag loads. Got them from jumble sales. My dad was a scout leader and mum a cub mistress so I had first dibs. These figures were ideal Very Happy

Action Man deserter @ Steve lol!

Original empty boxes would be really useful these days, I'm using repo boxes for some of my troops.
