Home made Dickie Scarf for my Black Ops Green Beret

Newly arrived today was my Green Beret Black 2 piece uniform from Cotswold Collectables so I thought I'd bash my GI Joe 1996 Masterpiece Edition in it and to use some of my newly acquired 22mm Camo Grossgrain Ribbon to use as a Dickie scarf what do you all think ?



This picture was with the Ribbon just used as a wrap around scarf, I wasn't too pleased with this so I've got my needle and cotton out and made a makeshift Dickie scarf







Here's my Black Ops Specialist Thomas Shelby proudly showing his medals for Gallantry wearing his New Dickie I'm really pleased with his new look

Cheers Brian I was quite amazed with my sowing skills the hardest bit was threading the needle with shakey hands and bad eyesight

Haha nice spot Jim I've just recently finished watching both series of Peaky Blinders and thought Mr Thomas Shelby would have real grit for one of my Green Berets Crew and thought this Black Ops would be great with Razor blades sewn in his Green Beret

Here's my latest attempt at an home made Green Beret Dickie scarf made especially for my GB bash on Specialist Chris Barlan AKA Camoflage



Again not too neat with the sewing but getting better I think

I love seeing homemade gear and this scarf is great.
The fact that your design has already evolved shows that by the time you've made a few you will be proficient at sewing.
Learning by doing is the way forward

Cheers barney_leadhead, yes had to cut up an old knock off jacket for this one but saw better potential with the Dickie, your right tho learning by doing is the way, and I'm not stabbing myself as much with the needle now

Good sewing work Ian, they really look the part!

Don't worry about stitching neatness too much, as long as it holds together you're ok. If it was stiching for 1:1 parachutes, you'll have to do about 9 stitches per sqaure inch to keep the wind out to stop it from ripping the seams apart. I dabble now and again when things need sewing and saving, i'm proud to report there's been no AM garments sewn to tablecloths or bed covers since i was about 7/8 years old. I now wear reading glasses for stitching, they really help a lot.

Cheers for the advise mate I'm just on a roll now onto my second one today my reading glasses are perminant now mate there'd be some blood and pain without them

Thanks Gary I'm on with making a 2nd one and hopefully will be a bit better

Here's my 2nd attempt today think I was getting tired and maybe tried to cut corners I made the collar out of the original jacket collar and it's come out too broad and not to scale





As you can see the new one on the left is a bit too wide around the neck and doesnt look right

Thanks Steve yes the Cots Black ops Camo dickie was a lot easier to make than the two latest ones, but spend a bit of time on them and they do the job alright

Your sewing skills are almost matching a sewing machine!

Lovely photos too! Some of the 7-14mp Pentax cameras produce some really sharp colourful images, quality glass for sure! I'm a big fan of the older CCD sensors for sharpness, I might have to turn the sharpness down a little on my Optio LS1000, sometimes it can suffer a little blooming when very bright colours are in the frame, mainly on very very bright sunny days (MAM orange parachute) I'm going to give that MAM parachute a going over with a Geiger counter, it glows in the dark! lol!

The best time to take close up outdoor photos is when the sky is an overcast whitish colour, best for Bokeh effects which anyone can do in seconds. Some Casio cameras use Pentax lenses

Photo's taken wil my little Pentax Optio E75 10.1 megapixels, I'm still a bit hit and miss with the shots though

I like the new scarf.

I bought a repro one off ebay a while ago. It turned out to be a plastic type material which wasn't really any good , so i'm now on the lookout for a decent cloth replacement.

If you go into production let me know.

Cheers mate yes I bought one of the copy ones too totally different material as you say, I keep trying to make one that looks quite descent but none are that great as you can tell when you look at my real one in the middle of the two I've made in the picture, it would be good if I can get the original material print, which I believe was a parachute cam design that was incorerated into the Vietnam era Green Beret original Dickie scarf, but if you want one of my attempts to get you by just let me know
