| I had the dark blue greatcoat version when I was a kid and loved it. I was so pleased when Alan Hall included this as part of the 40th range. I always wanted an Arab outfit though to go with it, I think its because one of my other favourite toys was the Airfix Fort Sahara set with the FFL and Arab soldiers. Oh happy days lol. | |

| I picked up another couple of loose sets recently as I wanted to do a couple of desert (tan) boot versions. I decided to tuck the trousers inside the boots this time, I think I prefer this look. How about you guys, trousers over boots or tucked in? Then again I suppose it differs from outfit to outfit. | |

| Very Beau Geste! Great uniforms. Which was originally the earlier version, the light or dark blue? I was outgrowing AM by the time these came along so I don't have any nostalgia for them but I have to admit they are great uniforms. Unfortunately when I think Foreign Legion I think of the Laurel and Hardy film! _________________ Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. | |

| Thanks Steve, I did hear that the light blue came first but wasn't around for long. Not sure how true that is, can anyone shed any any further light on this?
And Stan and Ollie? Great movies, I think they did two films in the FFL.

| '.... I always wanted an Arab outfit though to go with it, I think its because one of my other favourite toys was the Airfix Fort Sahara set with the FFL and Arab soldiers. Oh happy days lol.' Absolutely!!! I never had this one as a kid, but yes, I it was a 'Must have!!!' as a 40th! And I could only dream about the Fort Sahara as a weener, and gaze longingly at it in every Airfix catalogue, I ever had. Finally at 51 ys of age, I got one thanks to my wife!!!! _________________ | |

lol..well better late then never Jim! I still haven't got one although (it's amazing what you remember when something triggers it) I did have some Airfix FFL soldiers..they were dark blue! How's that for memory? As for 40th light and dark FFL's, isn't one quite rare and the other easy to find? Ditto the vintage. _________________ Life moves pretty fast. | Good memory Steve lol. I have a few sets of Airfix FFL and Arabs that I've picked up over the years.
Still looking for a nice Fort Sahara though.

| Its an outstanding piece Dal, been fortunate enough to see it 'in the flesh' a couple of times. Looking forward to Sierra1's book to get the details of putting this together. | |

How's that for memory? The Amazing Mr Memmory Man! Now... can you tell us what the 49 steps are?!!!! And speaking of triggers - I remembered that in the 60's Airfix catalogue it had a photo of said dark blue FFL figures and the description said something along the lines of '... and the detailed set comes complete with Bugler.' I had no idea what Bugler meant, and because I was quite young, I read it as Buggler I can remember puzzling over it for ages as I committed all the pics to memory (LOL!), then eventually trotting off downstairs to ask Mum what a Buggler was... she had no idea iether!!!

| FFL is a really well put together uniform set and I like your brown boot variations.
I had the 1:72 Airfix set too; in fact still around somewhere although the box is long gone. Made a fort from cardboard for them when I was 8 or 9 but that is long gone too.

| What a great outfit all your boys looks so smart and the outfits are in such great condition. I do like the tan boots but, for that otufits I prefer the boots tucked in, Scott normally wears his trousers tucked into his boots because he's a gardener as well as a soldier so it should be neater the boots look nice and smart with the trousers tucked over them though I think it does vary from outfit to outfit. According to the Action Man Dossier "For some reason there were two versions of the Legionnaire, the first (and the rarer) having a light blue coat and sash, the later one having a dark blue coat and sash. Both versions included the distinctive French cap knwon as a kepi, together with the cap-cover adopted by Legionnaires to protect them from the fierce heat of the desert sun." I'll have to try and remember at some point to photocopy the pages as it's got a quote of the information on the FFL from the Soldiers Of The World Intelligence Manual in there as well hope this helps | |
