Augusts Interview 2016 - Gunner Munro Empty
PostSubject: Augusts Interview 2016 - Gunner Munro   Augusts Interview 2016 - Gunner Munro Icon_minitimeMon Aug 01, 2016 7:15 pm

Name ?

Steve, Here I am with the most recent recruit my Grandson Ezra.

Augusts Interview 2016 - Gunner Munro 7FD7D763-5571-46F7-8D65-A3A6397AA5A8_zpskjukbzjz

Online name ?

Gunner. Its a nickname from back in the day when I was in the TA . This was what my work colleagues called me. I was Army barmy when I was kid ( My Nan used to live near the Bridging Camp at Littlesea , Dorset) and as all good 1960's minted kids I spent most of that decade reliving WW2 with airfix soldiers/'plane kits and of course AM ! I was going to join the regs but when I hit 15ish Gurrls & Punk Rock took over my interests. I ended up marrying Debbie ( see SKJ post) - Nah ! just kidding.. but did marry Wendy , ended up post Uni working for ICI . but I just had to scratch that Army itch , joined the TA Infantry - Mercians/Cheshires and spent 5.5 great years defending various woods in NW england against the evil Warsaw pact Laughing

Location ?

Northwich, Cheshire, via Weymouth, Dorest & Ulverston in Cumbria. I've lived in Cheshire since 1983, so I guess I'm an adopted "son of the Oak".

First Vam/Joe/Mam or 1/6 figure ?

This was my basic soldier , 1966. He is now N01 -all that remains is his head !

What was your favourite figure as a kid, and do you still own him?

Very difficult as there were various stages and as various VAM 'retired' battle injured. But I guess if you have to push me I would say its my Sailor. I got him as my last VAM of Xmas '71 ?- Unfortunately I can't recall his HMS station.
Here he is with Black...and yes thats Gunner 2.0 in the background via Thatsmyface.com!

Augusts Interview 2016 - Gunner Munro Image_zpsfagxo4mc

Favourite figure now ?

Can't call that - so all my child hood figures. I have them all - or rather bits - mainly just the heads.I've just to add a Tommy Gunn-I have my child hood ones head but its lost/temparily misplaced in the house some where. I also want a couple of Marx knights who, along with General Custer was part of the crew ( honary Action Men!)

Most desired item ?

I'm afraid there are several, but what would be really cool would be a Spartan APC. I missed that first time around and I think it looks cool. The Munrovian's could really kick some Dragonian butt with one of those Cool

What will you do with your collection as you get older ?

I will keep evolving it. I'm determined to enjoy this phase of my life. A very dear friend of mine passed away suddenly 2 years ago. So I'm thinkig "sod it ! Carpe Diem" and If I could put it too some good at the same time/ charity ? that would be good. I'm recently a Grandad - so would love to enthuse Ezra and the GK's as they come along Laughing

What does your wife/girlfriend/partner think of your collection/hobby?

Just asked -"I don't know what to think!" via a look & a raised eyebrow that says " just how old are you ??"

Do you set yourself a budget ?

every day I say just focus Steve, focus, finish one project first. Then I browse e-bay, see a post here or over on UAMHQ and before I know it parcels are arriving ! - Mrs M says " its like Xmas for you every day !"

Worst Vam/Joe/Mam or 1/6 figure ?

I like some of the MAM's but I really just don't get the bendy leg or solid arm versions, moulded helmets etc etc .
on the VAM side I'm really glad I missed out on the Intruder / ROM era.

Views on 40th reproductions ?

I missed out on this phase but can see it really helped regenerate the hobby and gave us access to a good supply of replacement parts and chance to own some sets we never did as Kids.

Worst item of the Vam/Joe/Mam or 1/6 range ?

Can't call that as in the end all the VAM/MAM stuff will be attached to someone's key cherished memories

Best thing about collecting Vam/Joe/Mam or 1/6 figures ?

Its really being creative, and reliving some childhood ambitions - I share with SKJ an uniformity itch. So to be able to build an army & give my childhood memories a good run out and then realise them is great!

Do you think your collection will be collectible in the future ?

I guess only by other enthusiasts.. but of all my current set the Missile Assault uniform is the most valuable and may retain some cache value in 20 years ?

If you did not collect Vam/Joe/Mam what would you collect ?

Hmm I've gone through various phases ( Re enactment after the TA, a bit of Warhammer40k/wargaming & 1/32nd scale modeling it would be something "military" - Commando books ?- I've got a complete Victor Annual collection Very Happy

What AM/Joe outfit or set would you like to have seen released?

Italian & here in the UK the Japanese SOTW. Me and my mate Brian Smith used to use german uniforms with a US helmet on backwards for the Italians !

Do you have a/What is your favourite section of AMMO?

I'm just getting used to and finding out whats on here . But at the moment the diaorma and kitbash sections are really fuelling my imagination

Why do you like AMMO ?

A bit like UAMHQ, I like the quality of the posts , the eclectic inclusive tone, friendly banter and the wealth and depth of knowledge- I can always find a starter for 10 on any question I have.

Hi Folks
glad you like the interview. If you need to know more just ask  Very Happy

I've realised as I've got older ( and via my Radio listening habits ) I'm defiantly nostalgic for the 1970's & 1980's

But only the good bits ...

  • the Summer of '76 - what a sorcher ..
  • The start of Punk Rock  Very Happy- but now I'm also enjoying Fleetwood Mack and the Muse (!?)
  • Long lazy Summer Hols with my Nan in Wyke Regis , Near Weymouth.
  • Massive VAM expeditions with the other kids in Campfield Road in Ulverston.( all first Familes into the road 1968-1972)
  • Getting married to Wendy my wife & having my two Lads Adam & Mike
  • & the birth of the internet ...& e-bay ...(blessing or a curse?  lol!)

But then again look at the fun I'm having right now . Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Grandson to play Action Man with  Cool

Looking forward to getting to know more of you over the coming months  cheers cheers cheers
