Very cool! The Fisher Price adventure people line is possibly the most important (certainly most underrated) toy line of the 1970s. The small scale allowed various play themes and vehicles. Without the adventure people line, there is no Star Wars line (or at least not as we know it.) indeed, Kenner used modified Adventure People figures as the original mock-ups for Star Wars characters. We’ve got a few of the Adventure people sets; and they pair well with Star Wars and RAH joes.

Cheers Nate! I agree, they were so much fun, and as you say paired so well with other smaller scales. As far as I remember, these little guys were so much fun for me. I bet Christopher and yourself have some great adventures too. Interesting fact about the 'mock-up' star wars figs.

Well, he did. I just remember them because he had them, I was in high school at that point.

Another great line of toys from my childhood were the Tonka play people. It was only after reading an interview with a guy named, Enigma Force from flickr, that he reminded me of a van I had as a kid. Instantly I was swept up in nostalgia and went looking for one. A few clicks later on ebay (You all know hoe it goes!) I'd found and bought one. The exact one I had as a kid. Here are some pictures of the it.

If there is certain toy you remember having, you happen to see it on EBay while looking through or a friend has brought it up with you when talking to you and then you start to feel instantly swept up in nostalgia then it’s a MUST that you hunt for it on EBay or other websites like that to track it down, which you certainly have Dal. Fabulous photos of the Tonka pop up camper van with husband and possibly wife.

The Tonka Play People were great; and they had some cool vehicles. They had a series called “Rapid Deployment Force” launched in 1978 that was the first 3.75” military series. Probably helped Hasbro make the decision to launch the GI Joe RAH/Action Force line a few years later. After Hasbro bought Tonka, they modified some of the vehicles for the RAH line.
They modified one of the planes into a military version :
Some of the vehicles and equipment:
Tonka vehicles for the RAH line starting in the late 80s/early 90s:
Considering how off the rails, the real american hairline had gotten by the late 80s these more basic traditional military vehicles were actually welcome. The dump truck and bulldozer combo are great for combat engineers and the MP pick up Truck is pretty cool too.

Tonka also had a Mad Max-inspired line called Steel Monsters that many kids gave to Cobra’s Dreadnocks. They pretty much just made post-apocalyptic versions of their construction vehicles and added weapons.

I had never heard of the Steel Monsters line of vehicles and figures. Brief online research indicates the Tonka Steel Monsters lasted only two years, 1986 and 1987. The figures were sold individually packaged or included with vehicle sets.
The camper van looks like a fun set. Pop-up tent trailers used to be a common sight in the States. They have become far less common as "camping" has evolved from affordable recreation for everyone in to an elite pursuit for the wealthy class.
I have now heard stories from several people about potential campers being turned away from campgrounds because their trailers or RVs were too old or not "high end" enough to be allowed in.
ANYWAY.... this topic about smaller-scale vehicles and figure from those Golden Days of Yesteryear (aka when you were a kid) looks like it will be very interesting and fun.
