Nice shot! Is that a "build" in progress? Space does seem to be the flavour here right now.

Yes, a build in progress. Not sure where I'm heading with it, but it needs... more. And better. It'll get there eventually, maybe, sorta.

I love it, Dave. Interestingly, I was thinking earlier of how to build a command chair for the bridge of my ship and also came up with a beach chair sort of design concept.

It was not all that long ago that several members here on AMMO were using the interiors of demolished tv monitors (was it?) as the interiors of space craft.

The Star Patrol headquarters on land have security guards and this is one of them.

The Star Patrol is a mercenary quasi-naval force serving the Hydran Federation, a small group of human colonies on the fringes of explored space. Their ships consist primarily of surplus Terran Interstellar Navy and Scout Service ships, supplanted by converted merchant ships and prizes of war, mainly taken from space pirates. Likewise, their crews consist heavily of former Terran Naval and Scout Service officers attracted by the high pay and profit potential of service in a remote area of space.
In recent years however, the Hydran government has attempted to establish a Star Service academy on Hydra and some of the other other worlds to train Hydran citizens as space cadets and future officers. Since shore duty and assignment to teaching positions is highly unpopular with Star Patrol officers for it’s lack of profit potential, new cadets, who must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in science, engineering, medicine, or alien anthropology, spend only a year or so being trained on the ground before being assigned to a vessel to complete their training which takes an additional three years. Not surprisingly, there is a very high casualty rate among cadets.
Normally cadets will spend time aboard three different ships over the course of there apprenticeship; a frigate or cruiser in their first year, a merchantman in their second year so that they may gain experience in interplanetary and interstellar commerce, and finally a scout ship in their third year. It’s in this last, most dangerous assignment that the majority of fatalities occur as scout ships generally have the smallest crews and the most dangerous missions.
Th Hydran colonies have no shipyards capable of building interstellar ships and Star Patrol vessels, especially the scout ships have often been compared to Israeli Sherman tanks of Old Earth; there is no such thing as standard one. All of the ships are surplus obsolete and worn-out Terran ships, of several different models. All have been upgraded and up gunned while in Hydran Service and many have been field modified by their crews. A few have even been armed with captured alien weapon systems that were to be found compatible to their hulls and power plants. Obviously, procurement of spare parts can be quite a problem, as all the ships including ships of the same class have their little differences.
Crews are paid high bounties for every pirate or smuggler ship they capture, and are paid a share in the profits of from the resale of captured ships, assuming the ship is not pressed into service as a Star Patrol vessel. It’s also understood and generally tolerated that crews to some extent, pilfer a portion of the cargoes of captured smugglers and pirates, as long as they are discrete about it and don't over-indulge in the practice.
Scout ships are normally commanded by a Lieutenant or Sublieutenant, and may have anywhere from one to seven additional crew members, though more than four or five is extremely rare, with the average being two to four crew, depending on the ship and the mission. It normally takes only two humans to operate a scout ship; a pilot/ navigator and an engineer, though most also carry a gunner/ defensive systems operator who normally assists the engineer when not in combat. If a fourth crewman is carried it is usually a medic or medical officer. When a fifth member is carried, it will most often be a diplomacy specialist. Unlike the other ships in the fleet, scout ships have no enlisted personnel; only commissioned officers and space cadets serve aboard, with cadets usually performing the tasks that would normally be allocated to enlisted personnel on larger ships.
Owing to the personnel shortages within the Star Patrol, it is not at all uncommon to at least one robotic crew member aboard along with several smaller robots for the performance of very hazardous task. It’s also not unknown for crew members to bring aboard their own personal “pleasure droids” essentially a self-aware robotic version of the 20th century sex doll.
Scout crews also have the highest standard pay rates of any crews in the fleet due to the hazards of their mission and the lack of comforts of their relatively small ships. They have a reputation for hard drinking when ashore, and are usually the most interesting people with the best stories when sitting at any bar in the quadrant.

That stretch-fit silver uniform looks better than the original. Of course, you've upgraded the body, too. The stretch fit over the hideously jointed (but functionally flexible) original body would probably not look nearly as good.

Meanwhile, somewhere beyond the Kuiper Belt, another hour of mind-numbing tedium crawls by aboard the Hydran Federation Scout Ship HFS-009 Edward D. Wood Jr.

Well they could try activating the interior atmosphere which would at least allow them to remove their helmets? "Blondes in Space", or has the hull suffered a serious rupture?

Standard Star Patrol practice is to keep the bridge / cockpit depressurized when operating in dangerous areas such as asteroid belts.

Somebody forgot to restock the duct tape and silicone caulk during the last trip dirt-side. They call ‘em space cadets for a reason.

Finally decided to try a few photos with my new iPad and Instagram. This one was shot with Instagram.
The second is done using the Hipstamatic App. As much as I enjoyed snapping pics with an iPhone when I first got one ten or twelve years ago, I find the iPad is poorly balanced for photography, and not my favorite tool.

Congratulations on acquiring a new iPad!
While I often use some apps on the iPad to enhance my photos, I rarely use the iPad for taking photos. I usually employ the cumbersome method of snapping photos with a camera, loading the pics on to a computer, then emailing the images to myself. I open the email on the iPad and save the images to the device for editing. Once the pics are edited, I email them back to myself.
This approach does not lend itself well to working with quantities of images or with large file sizes.

The iPad was a combined Xmas and birthday gift from my mother. I would have bought one myself some time ago were I not spending so much money on action figures and their gear. I used to do a lot of stuff with my phone when I first got it, and it's cool using the filters on Instagram or Hipstamatic to achieve a retro look. The ergonomics of the iPad however are not conducive to good photography.

I find iPads really cumbersome. I invariably use a camera, ....or if it's just a quick shot of a part or component I will resort to using the smartphone.
Isn't it amazing? We used to want the highest definition in our cameras and images, but now seek blurring to look retro.....

The workers on Star Patrol who wear these jumpsuits could work down below in the Star Patrol spaceship.

I normally shoot my photos with a 36mp Nikon D800 and a 24-70 f2.8. I do find the iPhone convenient for retro looking photos and so on. The iPad may be as superior editing tool for smart-phone type photos, simply because of it's larger screen size, but it is not a practical or ergonomically sound camera.
