1/6th Messerschmitt BF 109E-3 build

How have I managed to miss this thread until now??

That's an amazing model Ian and great location for the pics too!

Brilliant "H" , I love that plane. I have always wanted to build a decent sized model plane, 1/6 scale is a bit daunting but i think i might have a crack .

No its on the dining room table in 2 pieces at the moment, NOT to the amusement of the missus

I've got various projects on the go to on the kitchen table for a few months now. With persistence you can wear them down until they stop complaining

Cheers for stopping by Steve mate, glad you like it, I drove for miles before I found the old air base it was like I was destined to find it, and what a great piece of our lost history I'm so pleased I found it, a lot of the road around it was in flood still, so I've got a lot more to explore for more possible shoots as the better weather gets here

Nice one "R" it's a beauty isn't it and could be a flyer if set up properly, It's a big project mate and with big projects you really need big storage

Yeah tell me about it mate my wife waits until I start a new project then ends up clearing the older projects away

Thanks mate it was nearly a disaster tho the neighbours cat jumped over the gate and was just about to jump down in amongst it some choice words and panic saved the day

I have pinned down that this me 109 is from the Richthofen Geschwader
Unit: 8./JG 2 "Richthofen"
Serial: 6+~
Le Havre-Octeville, August 1940.


here is a link on facebook , maybe you could pinpoint who the plane actually belonged to if those markings are indeed correct historicaly !

Where did you get the plane from Ian? Is the seller the person who built it? Be interesting to hear how he came to put those particular markings on it and if he was aware what they were or if he was just copying a photo.

I picked it up from a junk shop mate the shop keeper said he'd got it from the makers wife so not sure if he's still about but next time I go to the shop I'll try to find a bit more

Thanks Daz I'm trying to sort out the nose cone and prop on it now so hopefully within the next week will get it looking something like

The ground crew have been working into late evening and early mornings getting the 109 ready for the next sortie
