Hahaha cheers.  It looked much more matt in the wrapper  

A can of clear matte spray might cut the gloss quite a bit on those walls. As it is, it looks like they will be problematic when taking photos. Plus, as mentioned above, as you start adding details like wainscoting or hanging pictures, and place some furniture, it will help to cut out some of the glare.

I had to spray the last diorama I built with matte spray. It helped quite a bit. Go easy at first, very light coats, just a bare mist, adding coats as necessary with time to dry in between, otherwise you can get runs and sags in the paper.

I think Dave is right.
That shine will cause you serious problems by showing unwanted reflections of you, the camera and any light source you use during photography.
I'm not at all convinced a few pics etc. will stop the problem. I have to dull even computer printed paper to stop unwanted shine and it's nowhere near as glossy as those walls are now.

If you do decide to spray, can you position your diorama on its back so the walls lie horizontally? This will minimise the potential for any sags in the spray coat.

Unfortunately not. The walls and floor is a permanent structure.

Are you absolutely dead-set on using that wallpaper for some reason?

I'd be very tempted at this still early stage to just re-do it with something else that's not going to cause you a lot of frustration in the future.
It would be quite easy to do now, but will be much harder if you have stuck other objects to the wall.
Even in the shot you've already posted you can see definite reflections of what is behind you.

Point is if you've made the diorama primarily just for display of your figures or do you intend to use it as a background for future photographed scenes?

I can see what you're saying Barry.

The wallpaper is self adhesive so it wouldn't be too difficult to remove.

I'm hoping to use the dio for storylines in the future so there will ( hopefully ) be lots of pics taken.

I think maybe I need to find something better to cover the walls with.

Chris, I'm all for saving yourself unnecessary grief, specially when it's in the early stages.
Nothing worse than working really hard on a project then finding a component of it is actually not working as planned, but by that stage it's a major upset to change it.

Spraying such a shiny reflective surface as you have there has only limited application anyway. Those reflections will annoy the hell out of you and you'll be standing on your head to avoid them!

And I got a roll of lining paper from a charity shop for 2 quid....and found 2/3 of a tub of paste in the loft

Shame the shiny paper never worked out Chris, but the backing paper should work a treat! plus if you don't like it, get a matt colour and paint it

Oops..forgot to mention that it will definitely be getting a coat of emulsion when I've found the right colour.

Can't wait to see the new matte wallpaper!

Kev, never having frequented the seraglios of carnal pleasures, I will have to defer to your obviously superior knowledge of the type of decor that is apparently featured in Ottoman establishments of ill-repute but I too think that Chris has made a timely decision that will save him a lot of frustration in the future.

Yeppers looking good! I'm sure your
more mature fellows would agree!

Had some blue paint laying around...ok ok so its supposed to be for the upstairs bathroom,  but I appropriated it for the dio
Anyway...2 coats later its..um.. very blue.  So I've decided to use it as an undercoat. The colour I actually want will be bought some time this week.

It is very blue, but I have to say you have done well as there is very little glare which works well. Looking forward to seeing more progress

Thanks Dal. The final colour is much more of a matt paint so hopefully no glare.
